The
Monitoring Center provides centralized monitoring services to the
Division of Community Corrections, Division of Juvenile Corrections,
county and local law enforcement and
County Human Services Departments. These services consist of
the Electronic Monitoring of
offenders placed on house arrest.
-
Electronic Monitoring Center offers an alternative to incarceration
while
maintaining the ability to monitor the offender's compliance to home
arrest. The offender wears a
transmitter on the ankle that sends information to a receiver,
Home Monitoring Unit (HMU), installed in the home. The HMU
connects to the offender's telephone
line and monitors the offender's presence in their home. The
offender’s use of alcohol can also be monitored through the use of
remote alcohol monitoring equipment, which when used with the Home
Monitoring Unit provides a comprehensive monitoring condition.
-
In
addition to the conventional Radio Frequency electronic monitoring
mentioned above, the Monitoring Center also provides GPS tracking
services. GPS tracking uses wireless based communications and
Geo-positioning Satellites to establish the location of sex offenders
wearing specialized tracking equipment.
-
The
Monitoring Center functions as the point of contact for national law
enforcement agencies confirming the
wanted status of offenders under Department supervision and
also serves as the point of contact for State law
enforcement queries regarding
individuals under the Department's
supervision during non-business hours.
